Blog 24: Last Presentation Reflection

(1) Positive Statement

What are you most proud of in your block presentation and/or your senior project? Why?

I am most proud of my improvements in speaking and presentation skills. I feel that with the lessons we’ve completed, I have gained much more confidence and composure when it comes to presenting, especially in a much more complex, lengthy presentation.

a. What assessment would you give yourself on your block presentation?  Use the component contract to defend that assessment.

I would give myself a P- for my final presentation, I believe that I met all the general guidelines but still could’ve improved on some. I believe that I could’ve done more to make my PowerPoint more engaging, but I believe that the way I personally interacted and reached out to the audience made up for that oversight.

b. What assessment would you give yourself on your overall senior project? Use the component contract to defend that assessment.

I think an appropriate grade for my senior project would be an AP-. Despite some shortfalls, I believe that I made the best of what I worked on and I was still able to provide a compelling senior project.

(3) What worked for you in your senior project?

Finding a mentor and mentorship itself was a non-stressful yet fun experience that really helped me get excited about my topic. I’ve grown to enjoy my topic more and more, in a way that I see further exploration in the future.

(4) (What didn't work) If you had a time machine, what would you have done differently to improve your senior project?

I would definitely work toward setting better habits for myself, especially when it comes to productivity. With these better habits, I would be able to journey through the senior project process more consistently and effectively.

(5) Finding Value

How has the senior project been helpful to you in your future endeavors?   Be specific and use examples.

The senior project has helped me to consider my future more avidly, leading me to further exploration and consideration. Mentorship has led me to the experience of working or shadowing under an expert, something I’ve never experienced before. Senior presentations have helped me become more confident in public speaking and overall confidence and composure. These various experiences have helped me taste working in more professional environments.

• Ensures dish is artfully and cleanly plated and presented to the customer
• Attention to measurements and other variables allows for a consistent product
• A dish changes hands throughout a kitchen, each cook or chef’s undivided attention ensures that the quality of the product will be carried out until delivery

The fine dining kitchen is one of the most demanding and highly-skilled workplaces and one that requires the utmost amount of attention. When dishes are crafted, all senses are used to monitor quality. Quality and consistency are top motives in the kitchen and if they cannot be reached, a unsatisfied client is inevitable.

Lesson 2 Reflection

The calm and relaxation I needed after completing Lesson 2

1.What are you most proud of in your Lesson 2 Presentation and why?

I am proud of my energy and enthusiasm during my presentation, something I really wasn't expecting, it just happened.

2. a.     What assessment would you give yourself on your Lesson 2 Presentation (self-assessment)?

    b.     Explain why you deserve that grade using evidence from the Lesson 2 component contract.

I believe that I deserved an AE because I had the great volume and audience interaction/engagement, I think I had a very hands on use of my prop that taught the audience something new. I believe I also had an aesthetically pleasing and informative PowerPoint, a very engaging intro due to enticing the audience with cheesecake, very in-depth research in which I cited many sources, lastly I think my activity was very helpful in grasping my EQ and answer, as well as myself going around the room throughout to view progress and to answer questions during the activity.

3. What worked for you in your Lesson 2?

Compared to my first lesson, I think all the components of my lesson worked well together, I was most proud of my hook and activity. I believe that my energy and enthusiasm really helped the audience get excited to participate in my activity.

4. What didn't work? If you had a time machine, what would you have done differently to improve your Lesson 2?

I needed to have compressed my presentation more, I had tons of content, which is great but put me in a time crunch. So if I did it again, I would more evenly emphasize different points/topics.

5. What do you think your answer #2 is going to be?

I don't have much of a clue at the moment because I feel my EQ needs to be adjusted in order to find additional answers.

Blog 11: Lesson 1 Reflection

1. What are you most proud of in your lesson, and why?

I am proud of the lecture content I was able to provide during my lesson, I feel that I was very knowledgeable and through. A commendation that I received from a peer really boosted my confidence following my presentation. That peer had complimented me on my calm and  composure during the entire presentation, even when pressure began to rise.

2. What assessment would you give yourself on your lesson? Explain why you earned that grade using evidence from the component contract.

I think a fair assessment for the first lesson would be a P. I believe that this is a fair assessment because I covered all categories and requirements under “P” consideration provided via the  component contract. More specifically, I believe that I had effective volume/enunciation/tone as well as very thorough, quality research that was able to help me provide an informative lesson.

3. If you could go back, what would you change about your lesson?  How can you use that knowledge to give a better Lesson 2?

I would’ve liked to reserve time to rehearse my presentation, so I could have the information roll off the tongue easier as well as so I could estimate my timing better. That would be my biggest regret with the first lesson, not scaling down my content so I could get through all my points without exceeding time limit. For the second lesson I will definitely rehearse and analyze my content beforehand so I can deliver a more compact yet still in-depth lesson.
